Busy, busy, busy month. Lots going on. No time to waffle (well, some waffle, itβs me after all). Letβs get right to it!
3rd of March β World Book Day
First up: it is the Day of the Books of the World! Younger readers with a Β£1 token burning a hole in their pocket can trade it in for any of these books on this list down here β youβll find them in the Snug under Book-ish, right at the bottom of the stairs.
8th of March β International Womenβs Day
International Womenβs Day has, since 1911, flown the flag for the cultural, social, economic and political achievements of the worldβs women. Itβs also been an occasion for protest and political challenge, in the ongoing fight for gender equality, the establishment and preservation of womenβs rights, and an end to systemic violence against women.
For 2022, the UN has set a theme of βgender equality today for a sustainable tomorrowβ, looking to highlight the contribution of women and girls around the globe, who participate in their communities promoting on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response.
Weβre also curating a special International Womenβs Day list from our Publisher of the Month (of whom more later).
21st of March β World Poetry Day
Why oh why did I ever consent to
Be wrangled about by this meter and rhyme
This malarkey of tumbling language on call
This delectable waste of my time
Because doing it once was never enough
Never was nor will never again
It turns out this poetry larkβs a delight
A verbal massage for the brain
I know, I know, itβs doggerel. But Iβll (hopefully) be reading some other, better poems from the catalogue on our YouTube channel during this month. Stay tuned!
26th of March β Motherβs Day
βGrown donβt mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? Whatβs that suppose to mean? In my heart it donβt mean a thing.β
β Toni Morrison, Beloved
Publisher of the Month: Melville House

Weβre delighted to join them in celebrating their twentieth anniversary. As books arrive for the celebration, theyβll appear on the list below, so do keep checking back!
As part of the celebrations, weβre running a giveaway of Melville House books for subscribers to our newsletter! If youβve not signed up already, you can do that here.
Phew.
And thatβs just, you know, the special days. We also have a fantastic month for events, including our freshly revamped board games night (now on the second Friday of the month, so thatβs the 11th of March) and the increasingly popular quiz night (fourth Friday of the month, so thatβs the 25th of March). Keep an eye on the events page of this very website, follow us on social media, and of course, thereβs always that newsletter.
