Gin’ll FIx It is Simon’s 28th book charting the progress of this artist, illustrator, verse-maker, punster, Reading football club supporter and gallery owner. This is a compilation of some of his recent work – wordplay and verse appear with detailed illustrations. The mood is humor, satire and curiosity about the world. Domestic animals, birds and beasts of the farmyard and the zoo, these are his favorite pictorial subjects – and they are only humanized by the virtue of the context in which Drew puts them. The creatures themselves are realistic: their situations are not. This contrast, along with rhymes and puns, creates the humor. A sense of the absurd permeates all his books and here are some fine examples of Drew playing with absurdities and contradictions.
