An evening with… Julia Shaw

October 15 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
£10.00 – £26.00

Join us for an evening with criminal psychologist and bestselling author Dr Julia Shaw to discuss her new book – a riveting investigation into the world of ‘green crime’ as told through a series of real-world cases. Green Crime asks how, why and who commits these crimes so that we might better protect the planet. All tickets include a glass of wine or a soft drink and there will be the opportunity to get your book signed too.

About Green Crime
Traffickers. Hit men. Outlaws. Thieves… Our planet is a crime scene – but we can catch the killers? Enter a world where people are murdered, ecosystems are destroyed, organised criminals terrorise communities and corporate gangsters operate outside the law. And, closely following their every move, are teams of secret agents, vigilantes and scientists who are fighting for our planet’s future. Using insider sources and her expertise as a criminal psychologist, Dr Julia Shaw takes us deep into some of the worst environmental crimes of our time. She reconstructs the minds of the perpetrators in cases like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Dieselgate emissions scandal, and the Shuidong wildlife crime syndicate. From the Amazon forest to South African gold mines she follows the impact of green crimes right to our doorsteps, and meticulously profiles the work of the heroes bringing these criminals to justice. Dr Shaw asks: how do the Earth’s killers think? What makes their crimes so deadly? And how can we stop them from stealing our future?

“Julia Shaw has written a brilliant book that will completely change the way you think about the world, and how we treat it” ROMESH RANGANATHAN

“With a global scope and a sharp eye on the future, Green Crime shows us who breaks environmental laws, how and why. It’s a resounding call for all of us to fight for the planet we live on – and never give up” ALEX VON TUNZELMANN, Historian and author of FALLEN IDOLS

“We live in a world where criminals act with arrogant impunity seemingly above the law while defenders of the planet are criminalised, demonised and persecuted for opposing them. Green Crime exposes these contradictions and calls for justice in a world that is ecologically and morally bankrupt… A welcome insight into the criminal behaviour that threatens our collective survival” PAUL WATSON, co-founder of Greenpeace and founder of Sea Shepherd

“The most logical and hopeful book about the climate crisis that I have ever read… Rousing and gripping in equal measure – and written with absolute clarity – it should be read by everyone who cares about the future and who wants some guidance about helping humanity to get there” DAVID WILSON, Professor of Criminology and presenter of Channel 4’s In The Footsteps of Killers’
