Ryland Wallace, John Webb and Chris Lewis were all born and bred in Crickhowell and have lived the
whole of their lives here. While having similar deep roots in the community, their very different career backgrounds mean that they often bring contrasting perspectives to the history of the town.
This book intersperses factual information, personal recollection and anecdote with a host of splendid photographs.
Presented as a kind of ‘guided tour’, it provides comprehensive coverage of the High Street’s shops and businesses over the past century or more. At appropriate points, it also digresses into significant aspects of social life in the town and in so doing discusses religious, educational, cultural and sporting developments. It seeks not only to inform but also to evoke memories among many people and offer items of interest and amusement to all.
