SUMMARY:Book Signing with... Tamara Price
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Book-ish Abergavenny at 1pm on Friday 31st October for a book signing with Builth Wells-based author Tamara Price for her debut YA gothic fantasy – The Alchemist’s Daughter. Books will be available to purchase\, please book a free ticket to help us estimate attendance. \nAbout The Alchemist’s Daughter\nWhat frightened her the most were the monsters living inside her head. Living inside her. In the mythical world of Tellus\, Pax Silva awaits her Ortus day\, when she will finally obtain her telekinetic powers. Shunned by her community for being too unpredictable\, so she longs for a life of adventure beyond her small forest home. But when her village is attacked\, and her Alchemist father and mother are taken\, she is left with only cryptic clues and a mysterious golden amulet. Convinced that the much-feared Supremo Gen are responsible for their capture\, Pax and her childhood friend\, Am\, travel to Rubra to confront them\, alongside Miles\, a warrior with a bionic leg\, and Venefica\, an ancient witch Pax is uncertain she can trust. With the Blood Moon due to rise\, will Pax be able to save her parents before it’s too late? \nThis YA gothic fantasy features a cast of well-rounded non-binary\, neurodivergent and disabled characters\, and explores themes of friendship\, sacrifice\, betrayal\, redemption and self-discovery. \nThe Alchemist’s Daughter is the perfect introduction to fantasy for young teens\, reminiscent of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series\, Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows series and Alex Aster’s Lightlark.

SUMMARY:Book Signing with... Jenny Evans
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Book-ish Abergavenny at 1pm on Saturday 9th August for a book signing with Jenny Evans. Books will be available to purchase\, please book a free ticket to help us estimate attendance. \nAbout Don’t Let it Break You\, Honey\nCast in a cult film at the age of eighteen\, Jenny Evans was on the cusp of something extraordinary; a route out of her hometown\, a future of promise. But the new world she was exploring crumbled around her when she was assaulted at a party by a high-profile figure. Jenny reported this crime to the police when she became aware of other allegations of violence against The Famous Man. Shortly after doing so\, details of what she had experienced were printed in a tabloid newspaper. Jenny trained as a journalist herself to try to find out how this happened. In the aftermath of devastation\, she picked up the pieces and fought back against the systems that caused her harm. Her investigation helped expose the jaw-dropping press abuse and police corruption we now call the ‘phone-hacking scandal’. Now training as a lawyer\, Jenny is still working to fight for justice in a system that so horrifically fails its victims. Don’t Let it Break You\, Honey is a reckoning: a personal\, fiercely compelling account of power – who holds it\, who wields it\, who is silenced in the process. It asks urgent questions about fame\, justice\, and the institutions we have no choice but to trust\, while offering something even more profound: hope. Because this is\, above all\, a story about resilience. About finding your voice when the world wants to silence you. And refusing to let them win. \nAs profiled in the Guardian and on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour.

SUMMARY:Book signing with... Steve Silk
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Book-ish Abergavenny at 1pm for a book signing with Steve Silk! Books will be available to purchase\, please book a free ticket to help us estimate attendance. \nAbout Go West\nWhat would happen if you got on a bike in central London and didn’t stop riding until you hit the Welsh coast? Steve Silk\, the best-selling author of The Great North Road\, provides the answer over eight days\, 300 miles and rather a lot of hills. Admittedly\, he doesn’t take the direct route. Country lanes replace dual carriageways\, castles and museums are preferred to service stations and there’s even a day-long diversion down the River Wye by canoe. But seen from the saddle\, he gets a much more intimate view of historic towns and cities like Oxford\, Gloucester\, Monmouth and Carmarthen\, as well as the spectacular scenery in between. After all\, which other direction out of London can offer three areas of outstanding natural beauty and two national parks in such short order? Join Steve as he rides solo across England before being joined by three of his cycling buddies for the tougher terrain of Wales. Enriched with legends\, humour and tales of friendship\, Go West is a must for anyone who has dreamt of a cycling adventure.

SUMMARY:Book Signing with... Sophie Calon
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Book-ish Abergavenny at 1pm for a book signing with Sophie Calon! Books will be available to purchase\, please book a free ticket to help us estimate attendance. \n“Moving and thought-provoking” – Louis de Bernières\, author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin \n“Profoundly life-affirming… A wonderful book.” – Gwyneth Lewis\, author of Nightshade Mother \n“Searing and poetic\, Sophie Calon’s prose sparkles in this elegiac\, gripping memoir.” – Maeve McClenaghan\, author of No Fixed Abode \nAbout Long Going\nAt 50\, Sophie Calon’s father was a celebrated lawyer. At 55\, he was found dead on a garage forecourt at Christmas. Meanwhile he had pinballed between homeless shelters\, prison cells\, and dry-out hostels. His story is a lesson in how alcoholism corrodes a person – and a family. Long Going is a powerful\, unflinching memoir that sings with Calon’s love for her eccentric\, witty father while recounting his drink-fuelled disintegration. In telling his story\, Calon explores her family’s instability and pain as well as her own survival. “Throughout my childhood\, our family’s struggles couldn’t be said aloud. I hope that\, together with readers\, we can all come to deeper understandings about addiction\, grief\, and how we could break destructive cycles\,” Calon says. Long Going is a compelling\, frank and vivacious memoir that casts new light on the complex issue of addiction. \nAbout Sophie Calon\nSophie Calon was born and raised in Cardiff. State-educated\, Sophie studied Classics at Oxford University then trained as a journalist in her hometown. Her writing has been published in The Guardian\, The TLS\, Literary Review\, and the anthology Tales of Two Londons. Her story ‘Cantlos’ was runner-up for the 2021 Wild Writing Prize and published by Short Fiction. Sophie lives with her husband\, daughter\, cats\, and cows on a hilltop near Hay-on-Wye\, where they are returning nature to their surroundings.
